Intermodal Rail Freight
Intermodal puts your freight in a 53-foot container, drays it to the nearest ramp, moves it across the country on a train, and drays it out at the far end. You give up a day or two of transit and get back a materially lower rate.
It works best on lanes over about 700 miles where the schedule has some slack — retail replenishment, raw materials, anything moving to a DC rather than to a hard appointment.
Why shippers use us for this
Rail linehaul is cheaper per mile than a truck, and the gap widens the further you go.
Rail capacity is far less exposed to the truckload market's seasonal squeezes.
Roughly a 60% reduction in emissions per ton-mile against over-the-road, with reporting you can hand to your sustainability team.
Four steps, start to POD.
Check the lane
We confirm both ends are within a sensible dray of a ramp and that the transit works for you.
Book the container
We reserve space with the railroad and schedule the origin dray.
Load and rail
Container is spotted, you load, we pull it to the ramp and it goes on the train.
Dray and deliver
Out at the destination ramp, drayed to the consignee, POD back to you.
Tell us about the load.
